Picturing the Possibilities - Promise and Personalization

What is the connection between personalization and academic success? How do the culture, structure, and leadership of a school look different when students are known well?

Powerful teaching and learning begins with knowing students well. It means helping them discover who they are, allowing them to realize they are the sum total of their own unique experiences, and encouraging them to apply what they learn in school to their interactions and relationships throughout their lifetimes. It means having the highest expectations for each and every one of them. To attain this goal, teachers must utilize teaching strategies that engage the whole learner.

Watch the teachers in this video explore together and utilize powerful teaching and learning practices. As teachers tap into the strengths and passions of their students it leads both students and teachers to greater success and confidence. You and your colleagues may begin to notice how all of the teaching practices highlighted in the Picturing the Possibilities video series are interconnected.

When students are known well, held to high standards, and are successful, it has an empowering effect. They want to reach farther and take more responsibility. As teachers experience success with new teaching strategies and collaboration with their colleagues, they take ownership of their instructional practice. They become leaders, thereby changing the entire culture of the school. You'll hear from educators as they share their successes and their struggles in delivering on the promise of personalizing the educational experience for all students.
